A Successful Troop

Since our troop was chartered in 1920, more than 90 young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, including 13 since the beginning of 2014.

We currently have about 25 registered scouts, ranging in age from 11 to 17. We strive to live up to the ideal of the scout-led troop, which we believe provides young men with many benefits. Scouting allows boys to gain leadership skills, learn how to work in a team, and gain important values.

Camping

Troop 72 has campouts every month during the school year, as well as a week of summer camp. Past campouts have focused on rock climbing and rappelling, mountain biking, hiking, and canoeing. The troop owns 8 canoes and a trailer, and many scout families bring their own kayaks on our paddling trips. Most years, our older scouts will also plan a high adventure trip. Recent trips include backpacking in Denali National Park in Alaska, kayaking for a week on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway in Maine, and backpacking along the Appalachian Trail in Great Smokey Mountain National Park in Tennessee.

Commitment to Service

We encourage our scouts to devote some of their free time to help others. In addition to the service hours required for rank advancement, we ask our scouts to spend additional hours each year in service to others.
